POSILLIPO There are many enchanting places in the world, plenty of spaces opened to the flight of fantasy: these beauties of nature are charming to men and free human soul from inner pains. The neapolitan hill of Posillipo is undoubtedly an example of these wonders. Posillipo has been praised for centuries as the most evocative area in Naples for its charm and its idyllic setting. "Posillipo" comes from the ancient greek word 'pausilypon', meaning that 'lessens pain'.
HOW TO REACH IT Starting from Mergellina, a panoramic road leads to Posillipo, It was built in 1812 by Gioacchino Murat and the germans achieved it in 1823. Plenty of bourbonic villas and romans abodes were set along the way, either nestling among trees or overlooking the sea on the rocks. It's worthy enjoying the sensational views from Parco della Rimembranza: Naples, the Vesuvius, the island of Nisida, Sorrento and Capri can be clearly seen in lovely weather. Going on the street, it'll lead to Marechiaro, a popular fishing-village mentioned by Salvatore di Giacomo in his poems.
