The
first floor of the villa is entirely dedicated
to ceramics; you will see first examples of Medici
ceramics (among them a beautiful pitcher), other
works made in Seventeenth - Eighteenth century
and coming from French "soft paste"
factories (from Rouen, Mennecy, Saint Cloud and
Chantilly), a rich selection of ceramics from
Ginori factory (among them the beautiful plate
with Maria Teresa of Austria and Francesco of
Lorena) and other works by Vezzi andi Cozzi. Also
the ceramics coming from Germany are very important,
as those from Meissen rococò; Meissen production
is also well represented by older works, with
sea decorations on green and periwinckle blue
backgrounds, or by Kakiemon style or made during
the directions of Dietrich and Marcolini.
To the neoclassical period belong the Vienna factory,
aboveall that from Sevres; among the art works
there is the marvelleus cup called "Seine
de la Reine" and made for the Rambouillet
dairy.
Also ceramics made by the neapolitan factories
(Capodimonte factory and those of the Real Fabbrica
di Napoli) are well represented and exhibited.
They are in the central room of the piano nobile
which still today preserves the original decoration
with stuccoes and painted ceiling. The big vase
"Augustus Rex" (decorated with Korean
flowers) was made during the first years of production
by Capodimonte factory; please admire also the
group of the Pietà (Pity). Some objects
belonging to Herculaneum set were made by Real
Fabbrica di Napoli; in 1782 this set was sent
by Ferdinando IV to Spain to his father Charles.
The art collection from the East is one of the
most important in Italy and it is made by more
than thousend works, most of all ceramics. The
Chinese and Japanese ceramics, bronzes, jades,
enamels were made almost all in the Eighteenth
- Nineteenth centuries and they reflect the collector
taste, what he learnt to love in Paris. From the
Eastern collection please have a look at the Phoenix
vase, the black family vase and the green family
one.
Yuo will enjoy the visit to the Duca di Martina
Museum not only thanks to the work of art but
also for how the villa appears to be agreeable,
a typical museum -villa of the Nineteenth century.
